PVO Expeditions: Upcoming Project

Sail for Impact: ARCTIC EXPEDITION 2030

— Our journey begins with the question “How climate change has changed the thousand-year-old traditions of Svalbard and how old and new generations are struggling to prioritize climate over profit?”

While there are a lot of new challenges in the Arctic emerging, such as Transport routes for environmental toxins, Offshore Oil drilling activities, and other commercial activities, we plan to answer this question step by step with a unique storytelling method together with climate researchers and biologists during our sailing journey circumnavigating Svalbard.

Brief Project Summary

Sailing expedition in Svalbard capturing the joys and challenges of the adventure journey. The goal is to bring awareness to different stakeholders, connecting the general public, explorers/activists, the scientific community, and brand partners to act towards protecting our environment.

The project acts as a co-creation platform that individuals, businesses, and institutions can have closer collaboration on social and environmental issues, delivering a powerful message to act against Climate Change.

Mission

Our expedition will capture the raw beauty of the region and its wildlife in a form of storytelling, investigating what human impacts are already felt in the area and how people can contribute to preserving it.

The project will produce a short film documentary focusing on the adventurous side of exploring a remote wildlife area by a sailboat, combined with the field research contributing to the crucial studies being performed in the area.

Focus

The expedition focuses on the conservation of the Arctic Ocean ecosystem and the field research towards climate change impact.

Followings are the list of our specific focus:

  • Transport routes for environmental toxins and other types of pollutants from land or via ocean and/or air currents, their spread, distribution, and concentrations in marine ecosystems

  • Inputs, transport, and spread of influences other than those mentioned above between the coastal, fjord, and sea areas

  • Effects of local discharges as a result of human activity from e.g. offshore petroleum activities, other industrial and commercial activities, aquaculture, agriculture, and municipal sewerage

  • Synergistic effects of external influences from e.g. climate change, environmental toxins, plastics, ocean acidification, freshwater supplies, and/or various economic activities

  • Effects of changes in physical, water chemical, and/or biogeochemical conditions as a result of e.g. temperature increase, freshwater supplies

Type

  • Multi-stakeholder Partnership, hosted by PVO Expeditions.

  • Storytelling

  • Scientific Field Research

  • Content Marketing
